The difference between the X versions

La différence entre les X

This is the question that comes up most often once you have chosen your preferred brand: should you go for the standard version or the "X" version? While these balls all represent the pinnacle of technology, beware: the letter "X" does not mean the same thing from one brand to another.

Here, no universal rule — just precise specifics:

  • At Titleist: The Pro V1x is firmer and generates more spin and height than the standard Pro V1.
  • At TaylorMade: It's the opposite! The TP5x is firmer, but it is designed to be faster and generate less spin on full shots than the TP5.
  • At Callaway: The Chrome Soft focuses on extreme softness, while the Chrome Tour X (or the former Soft X) jumps radically in compression (around 90) to offer maximum ball speed for big hitters.

You don't choose an "X" out of habit, but based on the real needs of your own swing. Do you want more spin to stop the ball or less spin to gain distance? A soft feel or a firmer feedback?

Choosing your premium ball is a matter of precision, feel and intent. To find out which ball is right for you, it's simple: just test it!
